Underwood Captures "Some Hearts" Speaking On Gay Marriage?
Miss Carrie Underwood
Backwoods Beauty
Carrie Underwood Stole My Heart Today
What comes to mind when the phrase " American Sweetheart " is said. Some would name actresses, poets, inventors, or maybe someone who lives right down the road. Well Miss Carrie Underwood was brought up right down the road in Muskogee, Oklahoma . Who would have thought that this backwoods beauty would one day capture the hearts of millions across the nation with her angelic voice. One of the most popular female artists in country music today, and has inspired many with her beliefs and heartwarming albums. You might recall " Some Hearts "( 2005 ) which was a certified triple platinum album that just couldn't stay on shelves. One song that springs to mind from this album is " Jesus Take the Wheel ". I will never forget that rainy afternoon driving home from work when this heart-clenching song was played. It really hits the soul, and if you're from the country like me you can relate. Some may not like country music, but if you ever want a song that will truly move you I would check the country section. Carrie Underwood, my " American Sweetheart " was given an interview recently and has once again stolen my heart. While The Independent was reviewing her she was questioned about homosexuality and what her standpoint was on that topic. Carrie Underwood had this to say "Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."
When I read this in entertainment news, I couldn't help but smile. I was just starting out in high school when I realized that I was bi-sexua l. I had a lovely girlfriend, whom I had grown up with and helped through the hard times. But, with every happy story there are always mountains to overcome. Unfortunately, the small town I grew up in did not approve of same sex relationships and my girlfriend and I faced ridicule every day. We rode the bus together, stayed in the same neighborhood, and walked together every morning and afternoon. Kids would tease us and call us " Fags " or " Purse Bumpers ". And getting off the bus one afternoon, my girlfriend realized she left her book bag on the bus. The other kids then opened her book bag and threw her books and everything out of the window. Let's just say that I did get in a lot of trouble that day!! Once we were home the school notified our parents and when questioned we could never say why they treated us like this. Because if our parents found out we would be shunned away , or the fear of being shunned away . We have come a long way from that now and we still have contact. She lives in Florida with her 5-year old son, and says she is constantly thinking of me. Gays and Bi-sexuals are very much publicly known now! Where we would have to hide in the closet with our feelings and emotions, today are portrayed freely and has become a trend? It is amazing to have the support of a beloved singer and poet who has captured my heart with her words since she was on American Idol . But, Carrie Underwood despite her religious background portrayed something a lot of Christians won't. Love one another as HE has loved you. Love the sinner and hate the sin. Do NOT be so quick to judge others, when they might be very happy and content with who they are and whom they are with. Carrie Underwood, you are my " American Sweetheart " and I shall always keep you near.
